v2.0.1 · Free & open source · Works offline

Your photos are telling strangers where you live.

Every smartphone photo carries dozens of hidden data headers: GPS coordinates that can pinpoint your home or your child’s school, the exact millisecond it was taken, your device serial number, and hidden thumbnail caches. NoTraceFiles is a free, lightweight (under 1 MB), 100% offline utility that removes them in milliseconds, without compressing your images or degrading photo quality.

  • No network access
  • Zero telemetry
  • No re-compression
  • MIT licensed

Also on Microsoft Store, GitHub Releases and APKPure — or take the direct .exe / .apk.

// Exposure

One post is enough.

You share a moment. The file quietly shares everything else — before anyone even likes it.

The exact café — and 400 m from her home. Anyone can drop this into a map.

Exact timestamp2026-10-08 08:04:12.337

When she was there, to the millisecond. Repeat posts reveal a daily routine.

The original frame she thought she cropped out is still inside the file.

None of this is visible in the feed. It's all inside the file. NoTraceFiles removes it before you post — on Windows and Android, free and offline.

// Why NoTraceFiles

We take nothing. It costs nothing.

Most “private” tools still want an account, a subscription, or a server that gets to see your files. NoTraceFiles asks for none of that — and that’s the whole point.

0 bytes

Collected from you

No account, no email, no sign-up. Nothing you clean is ever logged, named, or sent anywhere — not even as “anonymous” usage stats.

  • Photos are read and written only on your device
  • The app opens no network socket — it works with the cable unplugged
  • This site loads no analytics, trackers or third-party scripts

100%

Safe by design

There is no cloud to breach, no database to leak and no key to steal. If we can’t see your photos, nobody can take them from us.

  • Everything happens offline, in memory, on your machine
  • Headers are stripped, never re-encoded — quality is untouched
  • Open source under MIT: read the code, or build it yourself

Free

Forever, for everyone

No trial that quietly expires, no “premium” tier, no ads, no upsells. Privacy shouldn’t be a paid feature — so here, it isn’t one.

  • Windows and Android, both free
  • Unlimited photos, no watermarks, no quotas
  • No credit card, no paywall, ever

Our promiseNo uploadNo accountNo trackingNo adsNo paywall

// The problem

Every photo carries an invisible dossier.

Your camera writes it automatically, and it travels with the file whenever you post, email or message it. Here is what it can reveal.

Satellite GPS coordinates

Latitude, longitude and altitude precise enough to place a photo on a specific bedroom, balcony, office or school.

Hardware serial numbers

Camera body, sensor and lens IDs that can link “anonymous” posts across Reddit, X and forums back to one physical device.

Sub-second timestamps

Millisecond shutter times and time-zone offsets. Across many photos, they can reconstruct your daily routine.

Ghost thumbnails (up to 64 KB)

A preview copy stored in the EXIF IFD1 header can keep the original, uncropped scene, including faces, IDs or documents you thought you had cropped out.

Software & edit logs

Photoshop and Lightroom history blocks can expose original filenames, layer names and your computer username.

A typical phone photo can carry far more metadata than most people expect, and almost none of it is visible in a gallery app.

// How it works

Header surgery, not re-encoding.

Most “EXIF removers” decode the whole image and save a new one, which costs quality. NoTraceFiles edits the file at the byte level and leaves the image data alone.

Read into RAM

The file is loaded into a memory buffer. Nothing is uploaded, cached to the cloud or written to a temporary folder.

Parse & excise

Binary segment headers are parsed, and only metadata segments (EXIF, XMP, IPTC) are removed or zero-filled.

Write a clean copy

Compressed image data is copied unchanged. No decode, no re-compression: the pixels are bit-for-bit identical. As fast as ~12 ms per image in our tests.

// Comparison

Scrub before it leaves your device.

Once a file is uploaded, you no longer control what happens to its original metadata. NoTraceFiles removes it before it leaves your device.

// FAQ

Questions, answered.

Why doesn’t NoTraceFiles compress or resize images?

Compression and resizing permanently destroy detail and can shift colors. Privacy shouldn’t cost you photo quality, so NoTraceFiles keeps your camera’s original resolution and sharpness. It only removes the metadata.

Messaging apps already strip EXIF. Why do I need this?

Many platforms remove metadata from the copy other people see, but only after you upload the original file. From then on, you no longer control what the platform does with that original metadata. NoTraceFiles cleans the file before it leaves your device, and it also works for email, cloud drives and USB transfers that never strip anything.

Can removed metadata be recovered?

Not from the cleaned file: removed metadata bytes are gone from the output. Your original stays untouched on your drive as a backup unless you choose overwrite mode.

How do I verify the tags were actually removed?

Check the output with a standard tool such as exiftool clean.jpg, Windows File Properties → Details, or macOS Finder → Get Info. GPS coordinates, serial numbers and capture timestamps should be gone.

Does it need internet access or an account?

No. NoTraceFiles doesn’t need or request network access and has no accounts or logins. It works the same in Airplane Mode or on a fully disconnected machine.

Which file formats are supported?

JPEG/JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC/HEIF and TIFF. Video, audio and document formats are on the roadmap.

// Privacy promise

We collect nothing. Literally zero bytes.

NoTraceFiles doesn’t collect, store or transmit any personal information. There’s no database of processed files, and anything loaded into memory is discarded when you close the app. That’s also why this page has no analytics, trackers or third-party scripts.

  • 0Analytics scripts
  • 0Crash-reporting telemetry
  • 0Advertising networks
  • 0Accounts or logins
  • 0Network sockets: it works with the cable unplugged
